BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech running back David Wilson had picked out a tailored suit before he found out he wasn’t among the players invited to New York City for Thursday’s first round of the NFL draft. Turns out, he could have used it.
The New York Giants picked Wilson with the 32nd and final pick of the first round.
The 5-foot-10, 206-pound Wilson could not be reached for comment Thursday night.
Most draft experts ranked Wilson fourth among running backs in this year’s draft and projected him to go in the second round.
Alabama’s Trent Richardson went third to the Cleveland Browns and Boise State’s Doug Martin went 31st, one spot ahead of Wilson, to Tampa Bay.
Wilson became the ninth Hokie selected in the first round of the draft and first since 2008. He rushed for 1,709 yards and nine touchdowns last season as a junior, helping Tech to an 11-3 record.
