Virginia Tech was picked to win the Coastal Division in a poll of media members at the ACC Kickoff at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C., but Florida State was picked to win the ACC championship in a landslide.
The Seminoles, seeking their first conference title since 2005, were picked to win the ACC on 60 of 95 ballots. The Hokies were second with 18 votes.
Virginia Tech was picked to win the Coastal Division on 83 ballots. FSU was picked to win the Atlantic on 72. The Hokies have been selected to win the Coastal Division in seven of the last eight preseasons.
In preseason ACC player of the year balloting, Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas finished second to Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins by only four votes.
Hokies cornerback Kyle Fuller was one of 10 players to receive votes.
